A cannula is inserted into a vein, usually in your arm, in preparation for an injection. The injection contains a slightly radioactive tracer that travels to the kidneys via the blood stream. There are no side effects from this tracer, and it contains only a small amount of radiation.
Imaging of the kidneys will commence immediately and continue for 40 minutes. Depending on your clinical indications, a second injection of Lasix may be administered half way through imaging to help kidney drainage.
Our Nuclear Medicine Physician will review the images and issue a report. Once completed, the report will be sent electronically to your referring health professional.
